Course
Overview
In an
effort to promote an additional resource for technical rescue in Western, NC, we
are pleased to announce the offering of the North Carolina Rescue Technician
Confined Space Rescue Technician Specialty to those candidates who are
fulfilling the requirements of NC Technical Rescuer.
This
course is introduces students to the complex
rescues involving areas that have
restricted means of entry and egress. Skills taught throughout the course
necessitate the student to have a working knowledge in hazardous materials, rope
rigging, EMS, and NIMS. Material covered include pre-planning, hazardous
materials refresher, rope rigging refresher, and rescue removal methods.
Attendance to all class sessions is required for certification, as well as, successful
completion of written and practical assessment exams.

forms of technical rescue, management of such technical incidents
require an element of pre-planning that will aid rescuers in
understanding the operations of facilities that have confined spaces.
emphasis is placed upon understanding permitting procedures needed for
entry, hazard analysis and OSHA standards that effect confined space
rescue teams. |

limitations and operations of their equipment. |

introduces the student to the specialized rescue equipment needed to
perform confined spaces. Supplied Air Breathing Apparatus, respirators,
breathing systems are reviewed. |

Within this
course, students are introduced to the multitude of hazards which exist
throughout confined space entries which includes an in-depth discussion
on hazardous materials, lockingout and tagging out energy sources, block
and bleeding piping systems and more. |

Mechanical Advantage Systems
Students
gain extensive knowledge on moving patients, equipment, and heavy
objects through the use of various mechanical advantage systems.
Students will gain a perspective of various philosophies of mechanical
advantage including simple, compound, complex, and T systems. |

Anchor Systems
Students
re-learn various natural and artificial anchoring systems used to
support various types of rope systems. Course work includes constructing
single & multi-point anchors, steadfast picket systems, improvised
ladder rescue rigging operations, and extensive timber rigging
operations. |

Victim Removal
Within this
course, students learn various patient packaging techniques through the
implementation of scenario based operations. |

Lowes has them in the safety equipment section)

Work gloves suitable for rope rigging

ANSI Z89/OSHA approved Rescue helmet w/ chin strap (No firefighting helmets)

Work Boots

Class II or III Rescue Harness (No sport climbing harnesses permitted)
